Two players can have similar production and radically different fantasy value once their schedules meet your lineup. The useful question is not only “Who scores more per game?” It is also “How many of those games can my roster actually use?”
The tiebreaker most rankings omit
Cracked Ice separates three ideas:
- NHL games: the number on a team’s schedule.
- Off-night games: games on quieter NHL nights, when fantasy lineups usually have more room.
- Usable starts: games that survive your league’s date window, active slots, position eligibility, and existing roster congestion.
Schedule should not turn a weak player into an early pick. It should break close calls and reveal when a slightly lower per-game scorer can produce more total value in your lineup.
Apply the method to your league
Compare players using your scoring settings and dates, then test the same decision under a regular-season, playoff, or balanced strategy. Treat availability as league-specific: a player named here may not be available in yours.
